Her role as Lisa McDowell, a romantic comedy film about a journey to America (1988) and its sequel Coming 2 America (2021) is one of her most popular roles. Headley was also featured in The Preacher's Wife (1996) and Johnson Family Vacation (2004). Headley was a regular on-air star in All My Children, an ABC daytime soap show. She was the detective Mimi Reed from 1991 to 1994. Headley also starred as the main character of the Fox drama series 413 Hope St. (1997-1998) in which she was nominated for the NAACP Image Award as Outstanding Actress in Drama Series. Headley was the villainous Jennifer Sallison on the Oprah Winfrey Network primetime soap opera The Haves and the Have Nots from 2014 until 2016.
