She began her career as a child model prior to beginning to pursue acting. Her nomination for the Theatre World Award for "one of the most promising actors 1956-1957" for her performance in The Potting Shed. Lynley began her film career in the year, with her debut in the Disney film The Light in the Forest. The film was followed by Holiday for Lovers (1959), and Blue Denim (1959). She was nominated in the year 1959 for the Golden Globe Award as Most Promising Female Newcomer Female. In the following year, she was nominated again for the Golden Globe Award as Most Promising Female Newcomer - Female.
